Frequently Asked Questions

Find Answers

Q: When is tutoring available at Bartelt Education Center?
A: The Bartelt Education Center is open Monday through Thursday, 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Assessment testing is available on Friday's and mornings by appointment.

Q: What's the first step that I should take to get my child some help?
A: The first step is to schedule your child for an interview and our Diagnostic Assessment. This assessment takes about two hours and allows us to develop an individualized program focused entirely on your child's needs.

Q: What tutoring options or packages are available?
A: Our standard tutoring packages consist of 30 hours of tutoring during a 15-week period. Based on the diagnostic assessment and an evaluation, the student is assigned a specific teacher with whom they meet for one-hour tutoring sessions twice a week. These sessions are typically one-on-one, but two students per teacher is also a very effective arrangement. Teachers with the proper educational background and experience are chosen based on the student's needs. We also coordinate with public schools to provide independent study services for students who need more individualized attention. Working with the student's teacher from their school district, we provide an environment where the student can learn good study habits, organization, and discipline, along with the completion of assigned schoolwork. Students approved for individualized study can attend the Bartelt Education Center Monday through Thursday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Q: When is the best time to enroll my student?
A: Whether your student is behind grade level or ahead of the class, time is the utmost consideration in helping your student improve. Our programs are year-round, so you may enroll your student at any time. The Bartelt Education Center recommends that you enroll your student before the next report card.

Q: Do I need to provide my own materials for tutoring?
A: No. Your instructor will provide your student with the materials that are appropriate for his or her skill level. However, students who enroll as Independent Study Student bring homework or other assigned material as needed. Tutoring is a proactive service. It is designed to facilitate a student's learning and progress from elementary school through college. Even adult students are encouraged to come. A teacher will, at times, help a student with homework. However, a teacher will not do a student's homework. Students should come to tutoring with specific questions for their teacher.

Q: Why is Bartelt Education Center more effective than home tutoring?
A: There are several reasons why our tutoring services are so effective:

  • Our Diagnostic Assessment pinpoints your student's academic problems.
  • Our personalized approach to learning maximizes the benefits your student receives from a variety of instructors and materials.
  • All we ask is that your student attends regularly and has a commitment to learn.

Q: What Happens If I Don't Attend Tutoring Every Week?
A: Each student is expected to attend tutoring on a regular basis each week and should notify his/her teacher before an occasional absence. We allow for no more that two make up days during their semester.

Q: How are teachers selected?
A: Our teachers are degreed, credentialed, and experienced. They are carefully selected based on their educational and teaching background and are experts in their respective fields. Each student is assigned a teacher who is well qualified to teach the specific subject the student needs to master. The Bartelt Education Center is not a "tutor mill". Our teachers are local professionals who have had extensive experience teaching at all levels.

Q: Are you able to accommodate students with specific education needs?
A: Yes, our staff is well experienced in working with students with varying learning disabilities. Having a permanent staff, we are sensitive to the needs of each student. Please discuss with us your specific requirements.

Q: What are your financial arrangements?
A: The Bartelt Education Center only accepts direct payment. We accept cash, check, or major credit cards. If payment is not made in full, other payment options are available: 2 half payments or 4 monthly payments at no interest. However, payment is required before instruction is given. A late fee of $10 is charged if payment is five days past due.
