Math Tutoring

Knowing that math is often the most difficult subject for students, we incorporate many different strategies to help our students overcome their difficulties with math and even begin to enjoy it.

We at Bartelt Education Center tutors our students that math (including algebra) is a game. Like many games, it has pieces, moves, strategies, goals, and its own vocabulary. Usually, the object of a game is to discover some specific unknown by using available clues. We teach our students problem-solving skills, not just memorizing set formulas. Whenever possible, we relate problems to the real world in clear, simple terms that students relate to. But for more abstract problems such as in algebra and higher mathematics, students are shown that math is a game that sometimes has no direct relationship to anything we can touch or count. Nevertheless, our successful students discover for themselves that algebra (and more difficult mathematics such as calculus) is a game as well. The elements of the game don't need to relate to anything you can touch as in simple arithmetic.

Because of this approach, we tutor that all aspects of learning mathematics can be fun. It is a toolkit for solving mysteries. Using whatever clues we find, we translate the mystery using numbers and symbols. After we've manipulated the numbers in accordance with the rules, we translate the result back into real-world terms. After initialing measuring a student's particular math level, we at Bartelt Education Center help our students discover the rules of math, and to have fun doing so.
